KYBELLA® is the first and only non-surgical injectable substance that can be used to treat a double chin. Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions about KYBELLA®.

What Is KYBELLA® Treatment?

KYBELLA® is a non-surgical treatment that can eliminate submental fullness, more commonly known as a double chin. Patients go to their plastic surgeon to receive in-office KYBELLA® injections in the area beneath the chin, and then they go about their daily business.

How Does KYBELLA® Work?

KYBELLA® is made of deoxycholic acid. This molecule helps to break down fat cells. Over the weeks following the injection, KYBELLA® breaks down the fat cells so that they can no longer store fat. The body then flushes them away. The neck will look increasingly slimmer over this time.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients are likely to need between two and four treatment sessions depending on the amount of fat that needs to be dissolved. The maximum recommended number of treatments is six. The number of treatments you should receive will depend on your needs and goals. Each treatment session will be spaced about one month apart.

How Long Does It Take for KYBELLA® to Work?

KYBELLA® begins working rapidly and continuously, but the results are not immediately visible. The body needs time for the deoxycholic acid to break down the fat and then to flush the destroyed fat cells away. During the healing process, there will be some swelling that demonstrates that the breakdown of fat is occurring. The results may begin to be noticeable by approximately four to six weeks after treatment.

How Long Do the Results of KYBELLA® Last? Are They Permanent?

The results of KYBELLA® are long lasting. Once your goals are met, it is not expected that you will need to undergo any additional treatments while maintaining the same weight.

When Will I See the Results of KYBELLA®?

Your should start to notice your results six to eight weeks after your treatment. Your results will continue to improve over time. If you undergo multiple treatments, your neckline will become increasingly smoother as the months pass by.

Is KYBELLA® Safe?

KYBELLA® is FDA approved for the safe treatment of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin. While every medical treatment has a risk of side effects, this treatment is considered safe for adults who are healthy, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have no infections or medical problems in the treatment area.
