Micro-Needling: How It Works and Why It’s Beneficial for Your Skin
Posted August 11, 2023 in Microneedling
Finding solutions to skin problems can be exhausting: topicals don’t always work, but you may not be ready for surgical procedures such as a facelift.
The solution is restoring a youthful glow from the inside out with micro-needling. This nonsurgical procedure increases your body’s natural healing responses to create more collagen, revealing a more even tone and texture.
What Is Micro-Needling?
Micro-needling is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical aesthetic procedure that targets a multitude of skin concerns, such as:
- Rough skin texture
- Acne scarring
- Uneven skin tone
- Hyperpigmentation
- Fine lines and wrinkles
Thin needles make micro-punctures across the surface of the skin, triggering the body’s healing responses and increasing collagen and elastin production.
Why Do Collagen and Elastin Help the Skin?
Collagen is the most common protein in the body and can be found in the joints, tendons, ligaments, and skin. It helps hold together different tissues, providing volume and shape.
Elastin allows your skin to maintain its shape, providing that “bounce” you see in younger, plump skin.
By increasing collagen and elastin production, micro-needling prompts your body to heal itself, renewing your skin from the inside out. As the skin heals, it creates new cells and restoring softer, more even skin.
Additionally, fine lines and wrinkles are made less prominent. Creases and wrinkles form from a lack of elasticity and moisture in the skin, becoming more prevalent as we age. With an increase in the healing proteins, your fine lines and wrinkles become less pronounced as your skin becomes more plump and elastic.
Micro-Needling With the Eclipse Micropen® Elite at Aspire Medispa
While the micro-needling concept has obvious benefits, there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to the specific device used. Aspire Medispa utilizes the Eclipse Micropen® to deliver premier micro-needling results to our medspa patients.
What to Expect From Your Eclipse Micropen® Treatment
To limit discomfort with your treatment, your aesthetic specialist will apply a topical anesthetic to your face. Then, a sterile cartridge with 12 micro-points will be attached to the Eclipse Micropen®, and your specialist will make shallow or deep passes with the pen across your skin’s surface.
Two or three micro-needling treatments spaced several weeks apart are recommended for best results.
After your session, you may feel some skin sensitivity, but it will be minor and can be solved with over-the-counter pain medication.
Our aesthetic specialists will be able to determine the best treatment plan for your needs and aesthetic goals.
How Soon Can You See Results?
Micro-needling is a treatment that works from the inside out; you are repairing the skin’s barrier and increasing the production of collagen and elastin, which will take some time.
Most patients see initial micro-needling results around four to six weeks after their first appointment, with an increase in visible improvement to skin texture and tone after multiple treatments.
